Left Airlie and headed for Townsville. Arrived around 4.00 so we checked into Globetrotters Hostel. Had a walk about and investigated the place.

Saw a couple of flyers for Billabong Wildlife Sanctuary so we booked ourselves to go the
next day. Lot of miserable people in this hostel. We took it easy this night after
the last few days carry on.

The next day the bus picked us up at 9.15 and we arrived at Billabong for about 10.

This place was cool. There were loads of Kangaroos and birds walking about the place.

They gave us a suggested itinerary for the day including Koala holding, bird encounters,
crocodile holding/feeding, and snake holding!

First up were the Koala's, and Tracy was in her element. She wanted to take them home with her - especially one of the babies (they were only 6 months old). We held Barney (fairly apt) who was 7 and very heavy (for a Koala) and really affectionate. Next up was the bird encounter where Jay held and fed a Red Tailed Black Cockatoo (noisy bugger). Jay then held a massive Crocadile - just kidding - it was on 4 1/2 years old, but it was still cool. We then took a dander and fed a Kangaroo, met up with a Blue Tongued Lizard and learned about deadly snakes. Jay held a Carpet Python and with the help of Laura (ranger) talked Tracy into holding it too!!

Another ranger - Rob - hand fed the turtles and eels and we even had a turtle race! ours was called Herbie and he beat Sheila even though he ran straight into a rock!

The most dramatic event of the day was Rob getting huge Saltwater Crocs to jump up for their food - Steve Irwin would be proud! We actually saw a Dingo - even if he was in a cage.

Headed back to Townsville where we did a bit of shopping. Took it easy again - early bus next day - the last bus in Oz!!!
