Left Sydney early (7.00 am). Arrived in Coffs Harbour 5.00 pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 hours - which is just over a day's work (unless you're Jonathan working for the City Council which is nearly a month's work) ;)
Coffs Harbour is a cool wee town. It was recommended to us by a guy we met in Fiji who was from there. Glad we stopped off even though it was chucking down.
The YHA there was top notch - like a little hotel. But we were knackered after the long journey so we had dinner and chilled out that night. We were only meant to stay here one night but the next day was Melbourne Cup day (it's like Grand National day only far bigger - the whole of Australia comes to a standstill - it's even a bank holiday in Melbourne!) and the local race course had a meeting. Kerry from the hostel was organising a bus to take whoever wanted to go so we decided to stay on and go there
Got up late and jumped on the bus to the races. It was an absolute scorcher of a day (a lot of people have told us we take the weather with us). Backed number 4 in the first race of the day simply because we liked the look of the horse and it was called Northern Impulse - came in at 20/1 winning us over $100!!!! choo choo.
The same logic didn't hold out for the other horses at the races but we backed the winner in the Melbourne Cup. choo choo.
By the end of the day we were pretty gone so we all headed back and had a swim and got a couple of hours kip before heading on out that night. Great stuff.
