After a nightmare journey (8 1/2 hours) we arrived in Taupo. The weather stank.

Checked into the Berkenhoff Lodge which was really cool and because it was so late we went straight for a few pints and some dinner in town. Because it was Monday night the place was deserted so we went back to the lodge for a few games of pool and a few more pints.

The next day we went to Rotorua which was amazing. Saw the geysers and mud pools which were both scary and beautiful. The smell of the sulphur was like rotten eggs (eww). The big geyser went as high as 20 metres at one stage!!!!

Also went to a Kiwi bird enclosure and saw a male and female. They are funny looking birds but these two were massive Erupting geyser (no sniggering in the back!!!)

. Because they are nocturnal, we weren't allowed to take pictures coz the flash can damage their eyes. We also had a guided tour around the Maouri village and thermal area - the guide was funny - told the girls to call him Handsome and told the guys to call him Sir.

Got the bus back into Taupo and hired out fishing gear. Went down onto the Waitako River and caught about a dozen massive trout. We released them back into the river and we didn't have our camera so you'll just have to take our word for it :)

We had arranged a Tour of Taupo but changed our minds because we heard the weather was due to clear up the next day and Jay wanted to do a sky dive. In the bar that night we got talking to all the guys from one of the sky diving companies (not the one Jay had arranged to go with thank god coz they were all knocking it back a bit).

Had an early night coz of the sky diving - tune in for the next instalment...
