...and we're not even doing the Bula Dance!!!
And so we left Mana Island and headed for the Seaspray Resort at Nanuya Lailai. This resort was actually a village among the locals. It didn't start off well when the guys hit us for a $20 connection from the Yasawa Flyer (the bigger boat which brings you between all the islands).
This resort was unbelievably basic in terms of amenities. No electricity, no hot running water (the shower was basically a pipe with a tap at the end of it and a dribble of water) and no fresh running water (this was rain water collected in big tanks). That said, it was absolutely beautiful. Our accommodation was a traditional bure. We once read that a bure was basically just a bug infested hut; we disagree, it was a bug and lizard infested hut! But that aside we wouldn't have changed it.
The family who ran the resort made us dinner and while we ate the mum and dad sat in the corner playing guitar and singing. We felt very welcomed. Although all of this was done by gas lantern.
We were directly on the beach with a black silk double hammock right outside which we spent most of our time in. Great.
The mosquitos here were probably the worst of all the islands. We're not too sure why this is but there was a mangrove swamp just over the hill. They tortured us all day and all night even on the beach. The repellent didn't seem to do much but attract all the flying ants to Jay! Ouch!
Just over the hill (a very big one) we crossed to the other side of the island to see the world famous Blue Lagoon. This spot was used in the film Blue Lagoon and it is stunning. Jay was swimming and a big eel just swam past him - freaky. We hired kayaks and went up as far as Turtle Island which is a very exclusive resort - costs $3000 PER NIGHT!
Christine and Brian from Mana came over as well which was really cool. We also met a family from NZ who have invited us to stay with them. So we hope to do that when we get there.
