Mission Beach, where the rain forest meets the Coral Sea, is another great place to visit. The caravan park is one of the best we have stayed, not a blade of grass out of place, lovely clean amenities and nice and quiet at night.
The devastation from Cyclone Yasi in February is still very evident. The trees apparently were completely stripped and  are just beginning to produce new foliage. There are still many houses under reconstruction and many still have tarps covering their roofs.  It was really interesting to talk to the locals and hear their experiences during what must have been the most terrifying time.
The town centre is a unique little area, there are shops tucked away in the most unlikely places. Just when you think you have seen it all, there is another row of coffee shops and eating places.
We stayed here 2 nights but again it would have been so easy to settle in for a week or so with the weather continuing to be perfect, beautiful during the day and cooler at night which makes for good sleeping.
And so this fantastic journey continues.
