Where I stayed
Territory Manor Caravan Park
Mataranka was made famous in the Jeannie Gunn novel "We of the Never Never" written in 1908 about nearby Elsey Station. The caravan park was fantastic, there was a lovely outdoor restaurant where they served breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stopped off for devonshire tea, yum yum, bring on those kilos. We also went back for dinner for the barra and chips, well chips, salad, hot vegies, all you could eat.
We were looking forward to having a swim in the thermal pools and after being advised that you must have a "noodle" off we went, noodle on arm to the springs. There are two thermal pools, Bitter Springs and Mataranka thermal pool. The water is so warm, a constant 34 degrees, and of course now we had our noodles there was no getting us out. It is like a traveller's get together to discuss travel experiences. Everybody just bobs around in the water chatting to anyone that happens to float on by.
After a couple of hours we thought it was time to do some more investigating around the area. A visit to the Mataranka pub was an experience to say the least.
We loved our stay here, again met some great people and now look forward to heading down south to Daly Waters.
