The trip out to Lake Argyle was well worth the drive. Lake Argyle is classed as an inland sea covering 1000 square kms. The lake was formed by the damming of the Ord River in 1971 and acts as a reservoir for the irrigation scheme in Kununurra. Many, many years ago when I worked for the Department of Labour and National Service in Hamilton my job included recruiting young guys to relocate to WA to work on this construction.  At the time it seemed like the other side of the world,
never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be able to see the end result.
The caravan park is great, lovely green sites, set amongst tall gum trees and very quiet. The highlight of the park is the infinity pool which is situated on the edge of the range. The water was a bit cold, to say the least, but a swim was another must do. Ray put his foot in and said no way. Comments from others swimmers included "this is the coldest water I have ever been in", my exact thoughts too
We went on a cruise on Lake Argyle which took in the dam wall and then out into Lake Argyle to see the amazing size of the lake and also an overview of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme.  Due to the late heavy rains Lake Argyle is at its highest level for many years and the water from the overflow was recorded at 1.1 million litres per second.
A visit to Lake Argyle Homestead gave an insight into the lives of the Durack family, early pioneers in the Kimberley.
After 2 great days in Lake Argyle we are ready to head east, the next stop somewhere in the Northern Territory.
