Well here we are into our 6th week. We have been to so many beautiful areas of Australia and we find it hard to believe that we still have so much more to see. We called it a trip of a lifetime and it certainly has lived up to that title.
The following is a snapshot of our trip so far:
Duration: 6 weeks
Mileage: 8,959kms
No of places we have set up camp: 28
Rainy days: 2
Best caravan park: Probably Port Denison although it is hard to pick an actual favourite, most have been good apart from the below mentioned.
Worst caravan park: You guessed it - Lancelin.
Favourite places we have stayed: Esperance and Kalbarri although I could add so many more.
Cheapest fuel price: $131.9 at Fremantle
Most expensive fuel: $197.9 at the Nullarbor Roadhouse
Longest road without a bend: Gaiguna - Ballidonia - 146.6kms (on the Nullarbor)
Vehicles overtaken: 2 old farm trucks, 1 motor home, we actually passed it 3 times going across the Nullarbor after we pulled up at lookouts and yesterday was the big day, we passed another car towing a caravan!!!!
Biggest "rip offs":  $6 for a 1.5 litre bottle of water at Border Village on the Nullarbor, $156 for my hairdo at Albany and 35c to do a wee at Kalgoorlie, 25c for pensioners, what a saving! It pays to be old.
Best buy: Mosquito nets for our hats to keep the flies off our face

The following are some funny signs we have seen along the way:
On the front gate of a house "Our dog can make the front gate in 2.5 seconds, can you?"
Butcher shop in Kalbarri " T. Bone & Sons Butchers"
On the back of a caravan "At my age I am just happy to be driving anywhere"
On another caravan "Goodbye tension, hello pension"

We also added a few Do's and Dont's for the trip:
DO have cocktail hour every day
DO get up and go to bed when you feel like it
DO have coffee and biscuits/cakes for morning tea each day
DO make sure the bar is well stocked in case you have to "free camp"

DON'T use an iron, clothes look great without being ironed we have decided
DON'T shampoo your hair every day
DON'T take a hairdryer with you
DON'T think of wearing makeup, no need to look in a mirror
DON'T worry when the clothes start to shrink, not sure why that happens, you put them in the cupboard/drawers and the next time you put them on they are nearly a size smaller
DON'T get upset when other drivers abuse you because you are going too slow

Although we do miss our family and friends heaps, we are so pleased that we made the decision to do this trip. It is just fantastic and we are loving every minute of it.
