Hello and welcome to my travel blog!

First the where:
Starting 1st October from London to 8th January with my mate Reg from London:

Argentina and Chile (3 weeks)
New Zealand (3 weeks)
Australia (3 weeks or maybe 4)
South Africa (5 weeks or maybe 4)
Finally arriving back in London on the 8th January.

Reg will go on to China from Australia - so our journeys will split there Coldplay - In My Place - Inspiration for travel!
Coldplay - In My Place - Inspiration for travel!
.

And now the why...

#1. the pure exhiliration and freedom of travelling. I've always been interested in doing this. It's like a dream coming true. This is an adventure and as my dad says, "You're a long time dead".

#2.  I've got no commitments here - not even a flat (ah the joy of aparthotels!). Plus I've got some very sweet friends scattered around Belgium who are looking after my worldly goods (Thanks everyone, you've really made this whole thing a load easier than it would otherwise have been).

#3. There's more to life than the daily grind of work and I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a break from all that.

#4. I'm an IT contractor and my contract has just finished (and a long contract too). We may get paid a little more but we also have less stability so there are times when we're out of work. But with that lack of stability comes opportunities like this. Plus I can look and apply for jobs on the internet from anywhere in the world which means I still keep that side of my life under control.

#5. Cost. This trip is costing less than you might imagine - it will cost me more to stay here in Belgium than it willl to travel (and that includes flight tickets as well).

But back to reality...I still have over a week and a half of work (and it's getting to be a struggle to get through these last days!) and I haven't packed anything yet either...

Isn't that always the case?!

Good luck to you sir, looking forward to your farewell drink in Brussels on Friday (DRINK.... GIRLS ... etc , :-)), and keep in touch when you get back (that is if you don't get arrested). New Zealand, you, Mr O'Connor, sheep, ... Do I need to say more ? :-))

And I couldn't have said it better myself : 'It's like a dream coming true.' :-)))))

it's already going wrong...
Guess who I found on my doorstep Monday morning at 6am... Mr Caren, in panic as he could not find his passport... He left it in one of the boxes he stored on my attic the day before... :-)

It can only get better now my friend! Travel safely and do not forget to keep us posted with your amazing adventures....

Re: it's already going wrong...
(from a hostel in Downtown Buenos Aires over a local Aregntinian beer)
That was a total nightmare. In retrospect I think that I tried to do way too much by leaving work on the friday, packing the flat up and moving it out over the weekend and then leaving on the Monday morning. Something was bound to go wrong and it very nearly did. It was really touch and go at a certain moment, but it all worked out in the end. And hopefully I´ve got all the disasters out of the way now. Now I just need to catch up on my sleep. I´ve never been so tired in my whole life!

¡Buenas noches! from Beunos Aires!
