On Tuesday when I was riding up from Santa Barbara to Sacramento there were a couple of stoners sitting near me in the lounge car.  They didn’t seem too bright at first, but when they started talking about legalization of marijuana, they were all over it - experts on all of the economic, political, law enforcement and social considerations.  It was funny to listen to them.  They were about my age.  One thing I learned is that that the pot that is gotten from dispensaries as medical marijuana is good for relieving pain, but it doesn’t give a good high!  OK, thank you for that information! Another funny thing that happened was that a third wacked out dude joined them for a while.  None of them knew each other.  This guy was really angry at the government and the fact that the train was running late and Amtrak is subsidized by the federal government (I don’t know how much of a subsidy they get anymore) and so it was Obama’s fault that the train was late. He was really angry and itching for a fight.  These two stoners were so good at diffusing the situation and calming him down.  No matter what he said, he was OK with them.  They basically just continued their conversation and acknowledged him occasionally, but didn’t react to him at all. After a while he had vented and calmed down and moved on to somewhere else in the train.

So they effectively utilized de-escalation techniques I spent a lifetime honing! Nice work boys! It's officially called "preventing and managing crisis situations" and it was mandatory annual training for me for 30 years. PS, did you know Kevin lives in Reno?
