     I don't know how, but Charlie managed to get our huge pile of "necessities" into our
not-so-huge Chevy Cobalt (this is NOT a car one will find recommended for this
kind of road trip).  Our first stop was a quick visit to his father at his
family's property in Susquehanna, PA. Exactly a year ago, this area was
devastated by massive flooding and it was a joy to see the gardens thriving
again.
    We began our trip in earnest about 4 pm, when we picked up
Interstate 81 and stayed on it until we got to Virginia. Some traffic around
Scranton and Harrisburg-- lots of truck traffic. We passed through Maryland and
West Virginia before ending at an Econolodge in Christianburg, VA; this place
scores points for having a frig and microwave- it also offers a free breakfast.
