Thursday morning the 21st of January Pete left us to go to Colorado and visit his girlfriend for a week. He was leaving the three of us in charge of the boat for a week. I guess we've made some progress as sailors...at least in his eyes.

We had a nice anchorage in Ponce a few hundred feet from a boardwalk that got pretty exciting on the weekend so we decided to stay in Ponce for a few days. The boardwalk proved to be a lot of fun checking out all the kiosks eating empanidillas and drinking Medallas. Sunday came around and for the day Nate turned on his Chicago Bears #1 fan personality and was one dimensional for the entire day: Chicago Bears, well...and beer. He danced around all day with beer in hand singing every Chicago song he knew. We found a bar to watch the game and Nate made up for Pete being gone in beer consumption. And they lost. And Nate now has a runaway victory in the seasick tally. And I don't see any one of us catching up to him.

To Nate's demise we set sail the following morning for Isla Caja de Muertos (Coffin Island). It was a short easy sail (even without a captain) and we spent most of the day there nursing our hangovers. For an island with such an interesting name, the island wasn't very interesting. A lighthouse up on a hill and an island covered in cacti and that was pretty much it. Nate got bit by a fish but you'll have to ask him about that...

We left early the following morning and motorsailed the rest of the way to Salinas. Salinas is a well protected hurricane hole with a nice marina and quaint little town. Pete would be flying back into San Juan in a few days so we decided to rent a car and pick him up. This gave us some much needed time away from the boat and saved Pete a lot of money on cab fares. (He learned the hard way that Puerto Rico's public transportation is essentially nonexistent)...
