Leaving here in the morning at 6.40 AM  = hope we make it.  Will be going high tomorrow = 4000M I think = and for several days too.  Internet may be a bit thin on the ground at Cuzco & La Paz but will try and contact you all.
Was a good day today = saw the Puchamac (?) excavations = huge pyramid things over a vast area = all in absolute sand and dust = just as well it doesn`t get windy here = would be like being in the middle of a dust bowl.  The beginnings of the Inca period = will see a lot more at Cuzco = a bit similar here to Egypt.
Petty crime must be a problem here = all places have walls surrounding them with broken glass or spikes on top and then topped with 3 or 4 strands of electric wires.  Security guys all over the place = all police carry arms = some long rifle looking things not just guns.  Police dogs all around too = alsatians wearing muzzles.
But we have had no problems = probably because of the area we are in = pretty swept=up and well protected.  But must be lousy in some poorer areas = we saw some of the shanty towns and looked pretty grim.  Amazing though = they all have electricity and phone/television connections = but not much water so there will not be much sewerage.  Must be the idea to keep them inside watching TV and hopefully out of trouble.
