Flag of Spain and Canary Islands  , Andalusia,
Thursday, March 30, 2017

Sunrise, Granada. It's cool enough that I'm in a wool sweater. The sun will heat things up to 22 degrees by mid-afternoon, but the end of March is still early spring. Yesterday at the Alhambra, we could see the vast bulk of the sierra nevadas white with snow.

Our place on the 4th floor, a block off the Gran Via de Colon, is the best digs yet. Bird song all about me, with the background hum of a city promising diversion. I could hop from our balcony to the old clay tiles across the narrow lane behind the hotel.

We may be just off the main street, but it's a  gritty step away, which gives a less sanitized, more interesting vibe. We're that much closer to the graffiti.

Lucy and I ventured into a little book/art place yesterday, OVNI Bazaar Bizarre, where she opened a series of graphic novels with comically inappropriate content. It made a perfect contrast with the morning's visit to the geometrical elegance of the Alhambra.

Those quick, decisive transitions make Granada a fascinating place to explore. A few steps takes you from a crumbling bit of history to a swath of counter culture skullduggery.
