Last weekend I went to Miami with my three brothers' wives.

They were especially kind not to trash-talk the Coudal name. Oh, yes, here was a little bit of "Why don't the Coudals celebrate birthdays well?" and "You won't let me play that move [in Scrabble] yet I thought the Coudals were rule-breakers? Hunh?" But I shrugged them off, and was glad not to have to defend my people.
It turns out our Coudal girls weekend in Miami was the same weekend as porn convention at the convention hall and a lesbian convention. This made for very good people watching. There was one chick we kept seeing around, we called her "the bad girl in the lace skirt." There was quite a bit of toplessness at the beach. And also at the beach, young people - mostly men - standing around in a circle for no apparent reason.
We hit lots of favorite spots from our jumping off point at the classic Park Central Hotel, old-style Miami. Really nice lobby. A highlight there was the free yoga for the hotel guests on the rooftop sundeck. Our teacher was some kind of loving, Latino yogi. At the end when we lay in Savasina - my favorite pose, our yogi came around, stood over us, and massaged our necks. It was incredibly surprising and lovely. It started the weekend on such a nice note of deep relaxation.
Also on Saturday was the Shape Beach work out. The magazine was offering this tented area, full of raffles, beachwear fashion shows, work out classes and free water.
For $10, I signed up for a Kickboxing class. Of course, everyone was half my age. The music was blaring. Again, a lovely, buff teacher - this guy was Brazilian and he told us to clench our butt muscles -- one cheek should be fighting the other cheek "And who will win?" I kept giggling over his rap as I poured sweat.

I kept up reasonably well in the class. We used weights, a weighted ball and did a little mat work. It was high noon under a tent and it must've been 100 degrees.  When you exited the tent, you got a gift bag. With your bracelet from class, you could procure a free beer.
A Beer? At a work out? Early afternoon? Yes. It was extremely low-cal beer. And after all, it was South Beach.
