As we sailed into Rhodes I saw the spread of Greek whitewash buildings. Then the huge Medieval Castle wall came into view and all I could think about was Lego! Medieval Legoland surrounded by the 'oh so blue' sea, the cloudless sky, and the heat. I could hardly wait to explore! I was all set for a solo trip when I met another crewmember at the gangway and away we went. We headed into the Old Town inside the fortification wall entrance and were thrilled to see the inside. The entrance and first block or two was the usual outdoor cafes and tourist stalls, but it didn't take us long to veer off in the wrong direction. It just got more like legoland the deeper we went, and we were lost !
We climbed down, crossed the drawbridge (now permanent), into the 'New Town', and headed toward the water and down to the beach. There were people snorkeling and I so wished I had some gear! Next time!!
This is what happens when I research after the fact. Rhodes claims on of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient world. The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the Greek God Helios "the sun" and stood over 30metres high, built before Christ.
