June 5 - Haifa, Israel
Anybody know anything about Haifa? Me neither. What did I find out? Well, in 1868 two German families came to town, who really cares what they did, result - The German Colony :-). This, at the end of a beautiful park descending down Mount Carmel, ending at the water. We took a taxi to the top for the panoramic view and walked as much as we could through the park. There were parts that we had to walk down the streets, so being the map reader (never follow me :-) I suggested some stairs between some houses. Well, my friend from Brazil was terrified going down these stairs, near peoples houses, and pretty much ran all the way down. My German friend was a little sketched out too, but I was laughing and she didn't know whether to laugh or run. The German Colony was at the end of the steps, promising German beer, so all was good. I ended up having GoldStar (Israeli beer), but what the hell.

Overall, Israel looks to have a much higher standard of living. Now I read that its the terminus port for some Iraqi pipeline through Jordan. It all comes together :-)
