When you least expect something great - it sneaks up and surprises. The only thing I'd ever heard about Croatia is that the beaches are great, but I hadn't seen any evidence. So, I had no expectations of Split, and had the idea of just going for a walk. I scanned the map for my best options, found the old town, but noticed some beaches in the opposite direction. Then I noticed a 'Blue Flag Beach' and did a little internet search. To my delight, Blue Flag is a European award for beaches of the highest standard. Bacvice Beach just happens to be one of the best party beaches in Croatia! Topless, thongs, nudism, F*%& speedos - according to the internet anything goes!
Now, I was only there between 12 and 4 so I really didn't get the party feel, but definitely the beach feel. As I was walking off the ship, I met another crew member who was down with my offbeat idea and away we went together. Only a 10 minute walk and the beach opened up to us. I guess since it is only May, the beach isn't in full swing, so we were only privy to the speedos. I must say though, some of those European six-packs don't look so bad in a speedo. LOL. The sun was hot and the water was warm and, oh so clear. Ahhhhhh! We walked along the bar/restaurant lined beach and picked one that accepted Euros (instead of Kune), sat and had a beer and some appys, then walked in the water and watched the speedos play a game called Picigin in the water. I have videos :-)
I was so glad that I didn't follow the crowd into the Old Town!
