tonight was the opening ceremony for the olympics. as you can imagine, that's all anyone was talking about tonight. gymboree and web closed early so all my evening classes were canceled today. i had nothing to do- except watch the game, of course. so lacey and i spent the night doing a little shopping and hanging out before getting together with christina to watch the games. it was nice since we haven't hung out in forever.

went to buy some more clothes. its amazing that uniqlo, chinese version of h&m, now has clothes that semi fit me. (woohoo to sweating my ass off in india and not finding anything in china that won't immediately go thru me. it's sad that diaherrea is now part of daily convo over here.) besides that, chinese washers kill your clothes. all my american t-shirts are starting to have holes in them. so i spent money i didn't have then headed off to fridays to watch the ceremony with other ex-pats.

right when we walked out of the store, it started storming. skies opened up, lightning striking the air right on top of us. it was insane. luckily, i always carry an umbrella with me now so we were semi-dry. unfortunately, we weren't able to find a table at friday's. the manager was really trying, moving people around. but it just wasn't gonna work.
so we headed over to blue instead. it was packed. there wasn't a table. but luckily, there was a cute guy with an older guy that was sitting in a big table. we decided to be chinese and ask to sit at their table. turns out they're canadians. so needless to say, we were ragging on each other the whole night.

it was actually a great time. definitely the best opening ceremony i've been on. the whole bar was really into the spectacle and were oohhing and aahhing to whatever light show they were showing on tv.  but honestly the best part had to be when the countries finally came out with their athletes. the first country was greece. surprisingly, the bar went wild. everyone was booing except for this one guy. very strange. i had to give my support to greece and was screaming "yay democracy." the chinese gave me a blank stare.

and yep, that pretty much set the mood for the rest of the night. the crowd went crazy when france came up. this time, even the foreigners got into the action. this time, i was the sole person cheering for france. i was screaming "viva la france!" and "la nouvelle-orleans!" christina and lacey were shouting "freedom fries!" good times.

canada came out in a little later. to show our support, we politely clapped while josh, the cute canadian, was acting like he was on arsenio hall. he was doing the typical audience motions. quite funny since we're now in 2008!

then about an hour goes by. we're waiting impatiently for USA to finally come out. and the sad thing was that the drinks weren't really helping. but it was better than being completely sober so i decided to join. as soon as my cosmo arrived, we finally came out. so naturally i was jumping up and down and banging on the table. and ended up breaking the glass. and the drink went all over the place. i had a wet ass for the rest of the night.

but it was so worth it! U-S-A!!!
