What an exhausting day - again!

We left Austin under cloudy skies with rain threatening.  Luckily apart from a few showers during the busy drive, it stayed dry all day.  The drive from Austin to San Antonio is only 1.5 hours so we had a full day in San Antonio.

Checked into a really nice Springhill Suites, this is a division of Marriott and the room is fabulous.  We are in a super location, just one block from the Alamo and the RiverWalk.

Strolled down to the Alamo and spent a couple of hours wandering around and learning the history of the brave men who fought for Texas' independence.  We had expected the Alamo to be surrounded by a little bit of country and were surprised to find that it is right in the middle of town.  When looking out from the Alamo you see skyscraper hotels all around.

A short distance away is The RiverWalk which blew everything else away.  It's an amazing complex of restaurants, bars, shops and parks, in a gorgeous setting as everything is alongside the river which runs through and around the maze of buildings.  It was busy during the day and this evening it was really buzzing.  As most of the restaurants and bars are open air, just walking around and listening to the music etc. is a treat.  We had a great supper in an outdoor restaurant where we could watch the world meander along the riverside.

Both of us are suffering from having walked much too much.  However we thoroughly recommend San Antonio as a place to visit and would like to spend more time here; as we would Austin which we also really enjoyed.

We are getting used to staying in a new place every night and are getting quite accomplished at packing our stuff away,  I purchased ebags packing cubes before we left and don't know how I would have managed without them, they are well worth having.

We still haven't got around to looking for a place to play tennis and feel that we are eating and drinking more than we should so no doubt when we do arrive somewhere, we will have to do some serious exercise although I'm sure the miles we are walking helps. We are missing watching the French Open tennis but never seem to be near a TV when it is on. Oh well, we're certainly not complaining.
