Flag of Thailand  , Sukhothai,
Thursday, January 10, 2013

After a long old bus ride from Phuket to Bangkok and a quick stopover there, we headed up to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is in the north of Thailand so we decided to stop in Sukhothai, a small town which was the capital of Thailand about 800 years ago. The visit was all about our trip to the Historical Park which is an area of parkland with various ancient buildings and ruined temples. We've seen a fair few impressive old buildings on our travels, but the park was more like a small ruined city so you go to wander around and get an idea of how the place looked a long time ago.

It helped that the day we went was nicely hot and sunny with lakes and trees to relax by. The park is a fair old size so we hired bikes to ride around the park and spent a good few hours seeing the place. A very relaxing day and I was glad to take advantage of my head feeling better again! After this little sojourn we continued to Chiang Mai.
