Today  it was time for us to venture out from the safety of our tour guides Paul and Lucy and out into the wide open spaces of the East coast. The drive to Oamaru was broken up with a stop in Timaru ( although we decided it wasn't great, and glad we weren't staying there. It was more of a working port from what we could see, and not that exciting from the only bit we saw. Nice rolls though :) and a view out to see )
Arriving in Oamaru we found our B&B quite easily, a lovely big Victorian house. The owner is currently restoring the inside to it's former glory, so it is very Victorian inside with loads of nik naks and quirky bits of furniture. Our room was massive with lots of furniture that looked like you shouldn't sit on it as it was part of a museum, I loved it :)
We were greeted with high tea in the lounge! all very civilized. Michael says it is the best tea so far, and so much better than I make it!
A walk into the town center presented many photo ops of all the large Victorian limestone buildings (but alas i can't download pictures today).
Penguin tour bus picked us up 7 to take us to first see the yellow eyed penguins and then the blue penguins. Both were so cute in the way they waddled ashore, but our favorites were definitely the little blue ones.... we saw a few rafts of them come in, with the last one having 90 penguins in it. They are noisy little devils with their quacking to keep in their groups.
Back to the B&B at about 10pm and an early night ready for tomorrow. Well really it was more all the fresh air made us really sleepy:)
