Today we started driving down from Port Hardy towards Victoria. We didn't have a place to stay reserved yet and we decided to see how far we felt like driving. When we left Port Hardy, it was cool and drizzly. We stopped at an overlook and Mom found ripe thimble berries, which are some of our favorite things, so we snacked on what we could find. Once we got on the road again, it started warming up and the sun came out. It felt like summer again!

We stopped in Telegraph Cove to explore and had a quick lunch outside at the Seahorse. I had a bison burger, Dad had a panini and Mom had a hummus wrap. There were some dogs around the Seahorse and they were fun to watch. Telegraph Cove was cute with lots of boats. Dad spotted an eagle in the trees above the harbor.

We stopped again in Chemainus, where there are a lot of murals on the buildings. Mom thought we should keep driving but we decided to stay and everyone is happy that we did. We were lucky to get a room at a nice hotel with a pool! Since it was Sunday night, there wasn't much open for dinner but we found a great place called "Odika" that had an African feel to it. I had ribs, which came with a grilled Caesar salad that tasted better than it sounds. Mom had Jamaican jerked chicken with carrots and a yam purée and Dad had salmon. Mom said it was so good to have real food; I'm not sure what she meant because we've had food all along.

We explored the town a little after dinner and found the boat launch. The beach is not much but the sunset view of the harbor was really nice. The pool was still open when we got back so Dad and I got to go swimming while Mom did some loads of laundry.

We watched some of the Olympics-I like the gymnastics a lot. It was almost midnight by the time we went to bed!

There seem to be thimbleberries everywhere, Too bad they are not ripe yet.
As for the other berries, after a little research we decided they must be American red Elderberries.

I've been seeing grilled salad alot lately on the Food Network and have been curious about it. I don't have a grill so will continue to be curious but it's good to know it was tasty. I think grilling or roasted really adds to the flavor. I wonder if I could oven roast some lettuce. Food sounds great! Scenery is lovely and the hotel sounds super too. Great day!

Well I have been educated, because I did not know of thimbleberries or what they looked like or that they were safe to nibble!
