There are a few towns mentioned on the map, but that's all they are small towns with nothing of any historic value, so I just kept on driving the long, long drive through Nullarbor, Yalata and Colona, towards my destination of Fowlers Bay.
It was getting late even though the sun sets around 8pm I didn't want to find myself driving at dusk and tempt fate that another kangaroo might be lurking behind the bushes and make a 'run' for it, so I made up my mind to stop at the first caravan park that came along.
I walked in to the roadhouse and found a woman on the phone chatting away in Italian or whatever who just kept ignoring me for at least 2-3 minutes, finally she asked me what I wanted and just passed me on to another staff member while she continued her conversation. I wasn't impressed.
Then it was out to the park and find the site I had been allocated, didn't really see any sense which site I took as there was nobody else there anyway...then I went across to the amenities block...1 toilet and 3 showers...and no water...not what I was expecting. Quick check with the staff only to find out that they had a leak 'somewhere' and they were working on it and the water should be restored shortly.
Next morning, I wasn't surprised to find the water still hadn't been restored and considering the disgusting state of the place anyway thought even my crocs wouldn't have saved me from a fungal foot infection, so I dismissed that idea and took off in the direction of Fowlers Bay. (I don't think the roadhouse has been cleaned or painted since opening in 1957)
Nundroo The area was settled by sheep graziers in the 1860ssheep station had been incorporated in the larger Yalata andFowlers Bay sheep runs. In the following decade these vast runs were broken up as the original pastoral leases expired, opening the area up to such activities as grain farming. As an agriculture based town, its industries include sheep production and grain growing farming. Nundroo has its motel, Nundroo Hotel Motel opened in 1957 and a roadhouse, the Nundroo Roadhouse, used a transient stop to Eucla and other nearby towns Coorabie, Bookabie,Fowlers Bay, Koonibba and the major town of Ceduna.
