That unfortunately wasn't good news. They said the inspection certificate was out of date and I would have to have it done again before they could issue the registration sticker...
So off to the local garage and book the van in for an inspection.
Naturally, they found something wrong...shock absorber needs replacing. So it was time to book in to the crappy and very expensive caravan park and wait for the parts to arrive.
They finally arrived two days later and after being fitted, I was able to take off towards the Nullarbor and the long straight roads, the magnificent cliff tops of the Great Australian Bight and on to Fowlers Bay.
I had envisaged this would take at least 3 to 4 days, I guess it would have if I had played the Nullarbor Gold Links course. What a fascinating idea having a golf course from Kalgoorlie to Ceduna. Apparently it costs about $70 and if you don't have your own clubs you can rent them at each stop.
The first leg took me to Balladonia, nothing of interest there until I reached to start of the 'longest straight road', the first of the Flying Doctor's Emergency airstrip signs, through Caiguna, Cocklebiddy and finally Madura where I stopped for the night.
Then it was on to Eucla the S.A. Border and further on to the majestic sights of the Nullarbor Bunda Cliffs three coastal lookouts that stretch in an unbroken natural rampart for over 200km from Twin Rocks,Head of Bight to the Merdayerrah Sandpatch, The Plain drops 90 metres into the pounding Southern Ocean. Absolutely magnificent.
