Bad night was had with the dogs waking up frequently and moving around the van, guess they are
adjusting again to living in a small space after the freedom of a big backyard.
With all the wake ups I went back to sleep and finally woke up at 9 am
something very rare for me. Quick breakfast, shower and off again.
The road between Mount Surprise and Georgetown was boring, with many stops for road
works, but when it's finished…??? It’s going to be a great road, as many
sections are barely wide enough for one car, being overtaken by a Road Train on
these stretches of road is 'bloody’ scary as there is nowhere to go...and
believe me they don’t care what happens to you, so long as they keep moving
Stopped at Georgetown for a quick lunch (population 300) it is the centre for the
Etheridge Goldfield which still yields gold nuggets and semi-precious stones.
The area was known as ‘Poor Man’s Goldfield’ because gold nuggets could be
picked up from the ground without expensive equipment. Today the town is also a
service centre for local pastoralists and mining operations.
