Before going to Taiwan, we stopped in Vancouver to spend a day exploring Canada.  I couldn't locate a diary entry or photos for this so this is all from memory, with assistance from Wikipedia (and you thought I remembered all the cool facts I learn from my trips ^_~).

We rented a car and took a ferry to cross the Strait of Georgia.  I remember feeling ill, either from the ferry ride or the car itself.  I was also freezing, despite having a windbreaker on,  because I didn't expect it to be that cold in the summer (even though it was Canada).  We arrived at Victoria and went to go see the Buchart Gardens.  Mom bought me a sweatshirt at the gift shop before we explored the place.  I had never seen so many different large, brightly colored flowers in my life.  Dad asked one of the people working there if he could grow some of those flowers in Texas, and the guy said that it would be too hot.

It got warmer later in the day when we visited the Parliament Buildings and Pacific Undersea Gardens.  The latter was a cool attraction because it was like an aquarium on a boat.  You walk down the stairs, and you're seeing the wildlife in their natural environment.  There was a theater-like area where a diver would introduce some of the animals, like wolf eels and an octopus (the 2 scariest creatures there).  Visiting the aquarium made the nature enthusiast ("creature adventurer" as I called myself then) in me happy.
