The entry on my trip to Hawaii is going to be divided into 2 parts because I found journal entries. My thoughts are somewhat scattered when I write in my diary so it's going to be a challenge piecing them together to make a 2-part travel blog entry.
My dad's aunt lives in Honolulu, and this was the first time we visited her and her family. My first impression of Hawaii was that it was a cool place. I love the beach and there's something in the atmosphere that mellows you out. It's rad that we were so close to the ocean. My biggest pet peeve was that the lack of daylight savings meant that the sun rose before 6:30 AM. The time difference threw me off because unlike Taiwan, it's not a complete flip-flop of night and day, but the change is enough to make you hungry at weird times of the day. Speaking of Taiwan, Hawaii reminds me of a cleaner, less crowded version of it
We didn't do too much on our first day. My great-aunt introduced us to a lot of people and showed us where she works (she owns a company that sells imported goods). Her granddaughter Audrey is so cute! Around lunch, while the adults were still talking, Eric and I were roaming around the shops around the restaurant. The owners of the surf shop was really cool. Actually all the salespeople around here seem to be nice. It was funny to see a store seeing "Western" goods because that must be what Hawaiians think of Texans. It made us feel a bit at home. ^^ That afternoon, we went swimming in the pool of the complex. It was on the 5th floor and the water was kind of salty but not full of chlorine. I got a bloody nose, which was annoying because Mom couldn't find tissue and the bleeding wouldn't stop. To make things worse, my feet were burning on the pavement, but I was cold because I was wet and the wind was blowing. When I finally got to the bathroom inside, I was kind of surprised at how bad it looked (bloody noses are never a big deal, just irritating). I looked like somebody punched me and then I punched them back; my hands and face was covered in blood.
Yesterday, we tried to go out to Waikiki Beach, but it was sooo crowded. Since we're so close, we could probably find a time where there aren't as many people. We also went to Pearl Harbor, which was interesting but not exactly my thing (I'm a beach bum, not a history buff).
