The week has been so weird. Of course, it doesn't help that I've been in visual kei land. I had Monday off in exchange for last week's PTA Day and today because it's Showa Day. At the same time, I had to get up early Sunday morning for the shamisen/shakuhachi/taiko performance. I should've caught up on sleep, but I'm still tired.
The musical performance turned out to be at a nursing home. All of us ALTs weren't in the mood to perform because we were tired and the rain had put a damper on our mood. Not to mention we didn't practice nearly enough. The first song went alright, but I sucked so much on the second at that we had to start over. Even though I've played it before (at the Christmas party), I can't seem to get the beat right lately. Thankfully I was able to get it right the second time once I put all thoughts aside (besides imagining myself as a cool drummer like Nao. Afterwards, we went over to one of the shamisen players' house and ate/drank for probably 3 hours. 0_0
It was freezing cold on Monday so I wore my panda hat when I went out. I ran into some of my kids at 7-11 since both the elementary and junior high students had the day off as well. I guess they never saw me walk in and out of school with the panda hat because I caused a commotion once the first girl saw me. There was a lot of giggling and one girl coming over every now and then (supposedly to say "hi", but I'm pretty sure it was to get a glimpse of the hat).
Yesterday was another dull day at work. I went to buy fruits and vegetables after school and ran into one of my students. He wasn't shy about introducing his father, which is quite unusual. Most of the kids will point me out of the parents/grandparents but won't approach me for fear for having to speak English. I also ran into some 6th graders and they asked me to give them fruit. XD
Instead going out like I thought I would, I spent the majority of my holiday today finishing up my fan letters to Alice Nine. I finally figured out how to type Japanese text so I would have to cut and paste. It seems really obsessive of me to spend so much time on an email to people I don't actually know. However, as an artist, I think the most rewarding thing is to learn about how my work has touched another, whether it's by bringing inspiration, a strong emotion, or a memory. Their concert brought me out my apathetic slump, reigniting my passion for the things I love. I hope that the guys of Alice Nine find a decent translation to my lengthy emails and know how much their music has affected me.
