Being two hours behind meant that the remainder of Germany was in daylight.. and more "snow"!!
Snow thick and plentiful all over the countryside, towns.. as far as the eye could see. Sooo wintry beautiful!!
Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately by the time the train was past Dresden Germany near the Czech Republic border, the snow had cleared and the light rain was all that remained.
Prague welcomed us with a cloudy chilly 2 degrees..the walk to the accommodation over all the pebbles roads and footpaths.
The selected accommodation didn't disappoint either.. an apartment just off the"Old City Main Square". .. delightful, well appointed with huge rooms..
A short stroll and amongst the xmas markets again.. another country's local fare to tempt the palate, more local decorations, souvenirs and traditions to enjoy. The children's choir carol-ling was pleasant, the lone bagpiper unexpected and the local trumpeters up beat. with another version of the hot mulled "Gluhwein" to sip.. another xmas delight.
An evening trip to the top of the Old Town Hall,at 69 metres high, shows the city in all it's splendour, originally built in 1338 it has an astronomical clock face ( circa 1500) in which two doors open on the hour showing the 12 apostles. The crowds congregate below for a glimpse of this ancient tradition.
Leaving the old town square behind a wander through the narrow cobblestone sit was built in 1342 and fortified by towers at either end. From 1683 to 1928 thirty sculptures and statues of the saints were gradually set on the bridge As a pedestrian bridge it is popular for evening /day strolls to enjoy the riverview and the imposing Prague Castle.. another historical place to visit.
I'm sure this city centre of over 1.3 million people will amaze us some more tomorrow...
