Where I stayed
Cologne Cathedral dominates the inner city area.Built from 1248 to 1880 It is a renowned monument of German Catholicism and Gothic architecture and is a World Heritage Site It is Germany's most visited landmark attracting an average of 20,000 people a day
With the Xmas Markets also in the surrounding square,I think 30,000 people were there today. What a Xmas market! Over 160 specially designed & decorated "cabins" featuring Christmas music, arts and crafts, toys, Christmas decorations and the scent of the Christmas bakeries creating a wonderful atmosphere. The aroma of mulled wine, hot chestnuts gingerbread and many tempting national dishes fills the air.
Inner Cologne not only has this Xmas market but another five .. all within walking distance of up to 30 minutes...that we are aware of.. special tourism maps and mini trains to make sure nothing is missed.
The sights are nothing short of spectacular.. night fall increases the magic of it all
With satisfied tummies after all the tastings offered.. enough oohs and ah's for the day...and a mulled wine with souvenir mug to keep. it is time to re- charge for the next day of Cologne's Christmas Cheer...
