That's what we did and Bangkok was the natural choice!
No special adventure on this weekend, just standard sightseeing!
Me and Henry arrived on the friday whereas Ching and John arrived a day earlier. They went to see a temple and a thai boxing event so I dont feel as if we missed too much.
It was full of colours, statues, guarding giant scuptures, gold domes, etc... This is really the sort of things that KL is really lacking of: pretty historical monuments that give depth to the city.
We also went to the biggest weekend market where you can find everything and nothing. I dragged the boys around but it's impossible to do everything. In the end I only bought one bag!!! How disapointing!!!
What is great as well in Bangkok is the availability of fresh food. At all major street corner in the touristic area, you will find some one selling you fruits or noodle prepared in front of you. It's great! I had fresh fruits every morning along with fresh fruit jiuice all along the day! This is the sort of things which a totel luxury in KL! You only find squash or tinned fruit juice.
There was also food stands with fried insects but I didnt try those, it didn't look that appealing!
Before dinner, we went to have a foot massage at a really nice massage place. It was so so good. Very relaxing and not at all the same as my previous experiences. I dont think it was a typical thai massage but I recommend it anyhow!
On Saturday night, me and John tried hard to convince Henry and Ching to go to the equivalent of the red light district just ot have a look at how it was. After a lot of discussions and walking around we convinced them to stop in just to have a quick drink. We gave them the choice of the bar but funnily enough the choosen one was a gay bar and I dont know which one of us was at least at ease me or them!! I was the only girl there !! It was quite funny, especially as we realised only after we had ordered.
The drinks were drank quickly and we then moved on to a more traditional area of the city centre!!!
On the Sunday, we took a boat ride along the canals to see a little floating market and it is typically the sort of things I love. Busy people everywhere cooking, selling, eating, preparing, repairing the boats, etc... great. It's a shame that we got there just after breakfast because the food looked great! Me and Henry could not resist the temptation of buying some: some deep fried "stuff" with chilli sauce and some sticky banana rice....
Mmmm so good!! There was quite a few people about and it was a very nice relaxed atmosphere.
Sunday end of morning, before catching our flight we went to vist the other famous temple in Bangkok, the one with the giant reclined buddha. This is also very very impressive.
But you can find anything at anytime, where we where staying the bars were just never closing!!! and right next to our hostel was a bouddhist temple, school and retreat with all the green space, calm and peace that goes with it... Great! I recommend it to anyone!!
