. Appearently there was a Lady Gaga concert in town that night. I went to go sit in the lobby to use the internet. A guy sitting next to me at one of the computer stations looked at me and asked me if I was in town to go to the cocnert. I looked like a hobo. A monster beard, big bags under my eyes like I had not slept in days, and dressed in filthy clothes as I had not had access to washing in a while (those of you that are travellers, totally understand what I mean!). I wanted to say to him....REALLY?!?! But I think that the guy was slightly mentally challenged, so I just smilled and told him that I was thinking about it. I am pretty sure that he was going, so I didn't want be mean. Now I know to many people, I come across as some super world traveller. I know that I am rather blessed in the travel department, but on one of my outtings to get some food, I bumped into an aboriginal fellow from Australia. We went for a walk and compared some stories. I had been traveling for roughly 8 months at this point. He had been traveling for 5 YEARS!!! How the hell do you make something like that happen?!? He told me that he had a kangaroo and game meat company back home that his buddy and dad were looking after. I got several tips and ideas from him about how to make your dollar go that little bit farther. I was jealous as hell, and started thinking to myself.....how can I make something like that happen...... Where there is a will....there is a way. After posting on facebook that I was located in Rotterdam, a friend that I had made while on the Pantanal in Brazil, Julie sent me a message that she lived there
. I totally forgot! I have met soo many people and made great friends that it really is hard to keep track of everyone. We had met very early on in my trip, I didn't forget about her, just that she was in Rotterdam. Our whole meeting was a funny situation. I was asleep in a hammock for who knows how long, and when I woke up, she was in the hammock beside me, and simply smiled. We began chatting and hit it right off. She had given me great tips for Brazil and it would have been nice to catch up since it had been so long. She graciously invited me over to her place to have dinner with her and her boyfriend. After a mix up on the public transit system, and making her wait for almost an hour for me, she came and met me with the same sweet smile from Brazil. Thanks again Julie for having me over again, it was good times to see you. I wish you all the best, who knows when our paths will cross again. Now before I left Rotterdam, I had been communicating with a nanny of mine that I had had while growing up. Ester was my nanny from the age of 7-9, and was still in contact with our family. We had arranged a time and place for her to pick me up. I would be taking a rideshare from Rotterdam to close to Bremen where she lived. I was really excited to see Ester and her daughter Katharina because I had not seen them in roughly 6 years. I packed my bags, got my butt to the designated metro stop where I was to meet my ride and head back to Germany. Thank you Netherlands for the parties, the good memories, and even better friends. Off we go again....Sorry for the lack of pictures here, but I didn't do too much, so I don't have anything interesting to show you. The next stop will have tons for you to check out.
Rotterdam....just a 1 hour train ride away from the infamous city of Amsterdam was a welcome visit because I was planning to have a few days to myself to just relax and get some planning done. I didn't feel like doing a whole heck of a lot after leaving Amsterdam, because of finances and because my body just wanted a few days to get caught up on some more than needed sleep. I came to Rotterdam thinking I don't know anyone here, which would have been nice this way I wouldn't have too many social commitments to fufill. It was cold and snowy, so most of my time outside was only to go and get some food. I found a nice hostel located just outside of the downtown area. It was a really cool looking building called the cubes. It looked exactly like it sounded, a bunch of cubes on their sides, which made for some funny shapped rooms. The whole city of Rotterdam was quite modern looking, and I was later explained that it was because of during world war II it was completely destroyed and rebuilt. I didn't plan on going out at all while I was in town, but on the night of my arrival, the hostel filled up rather quickly with people
