As you travel through Asia you hear one phrase consistently... "Same same, but different." This sort of characterizes the experience as places, people tend to melt together. Traveling is all the same, but done in different locations. Thats a bit how I feel about Yogya (pronounced, Jog-ja). The town is completely geared to tourists/backpackers, which has its comforts, but then again, I feel like I could be in Thailand or Nepal (but certainly not India). Yesterday I went to see one of the great Hindu temples of Indo, right up there with Angkor in importance. But I could only be mildly impressed. Sadly, the travel road has made me a bit jaded... its just another temple. I then decided to take today off (what does that even mean?) and hang out with some German folks, really doing nothing but eating our way around town. Food is one of those vices here that is cheap and always available and effective when bored. Tomorrow I will head towards Mt. Bromo and then I want to do some diving off of Lombok on the Gili Islands. This is where I will most likely spend my Christmas, which happens to be a very festive holiday here, esp if you visit the malls. Sipping on a latte in Jogja's largest, fanciest mall, I felt as if I could have been back in NJ (with the same number of Asian people). Starbucks even has the red cups here with snowflakes. Makes no sense but they love it. In in all, everything is good. Just had my dinner, so now I think I will get a beer. Hope everyone is doing well.
