On my way to Lima which would of been at least 3 days straight!.. i realised i had a spare couple days and decided to stop in Cuenca, Ecuadors 3rd largest city. Cuenca is full of charm, it has narrow cobblestone streets and beautiful plazas and domed churches.
I stayed in a quiet hostal but in the eveening went for some food and met a woman that was from florida but half ecuadorian and new her way around. A small gropup of us got taken to a great local festival called "festival of the corn" in the mountains which was authentic to indigenous peruvians.. we saw guinea pigs being roasted, traditional dance etc, but we also climbed a small mountain onlt to look around and see nothing but mountains it was sttunning.
She had a friend who was a shamen and gave us some hisory of teh mountains.. one was flat on top where a 100 years ago it was flattened by man to hold praise to the sun etc.
Cenca was stunning and one day i just sat by the river and read. Whats weird is there are many big mansion houses as they people have relative ties with the USA and they build these big houses....but live in the small poor ones?... i then start my Long long trek to Lima in Peru
