They say moving house is the most stressful thing you do in your life, well after viewing 20 + apartments in Melbourne, i would agree. I spent the first 2 weeks staying in a recently built 'flashpackers' in the city, and although nice and clean, it was miles away from where i was working and the kitchen wasn't big enough to swing a cat in. I had had enough with hostels, I needed my own kitchen, my own bedroom, couch, TV and kitchen!

Fortunately so did Dan and Eric (a fellow fruit picker from Bowen who happened to be in melbourne at the time). With the saturday house newspaper in hand we started circling various apartments, the only problem was trying to decided where to live, a conflict of interests started immediately! Eric was adament on living in St Kilda, the cool beach suburb out of town, whereas Dan and I had our hearts set on living in one of the swanky new tower blocks in the city 01. Our Living Room

.

To be fair to each other we checked out both areas, viewing some nice, and some outright disgusting appartments/ houses! Me and Dan nearly got our own way almost signing on the dotted line on a 2 bedroom fully furnished 30th floor apartment. With views over the city, Swimming pool and Gym we couldn't really think of anything better, but Eric vetoed it and we were left to carry on looking. We now know this was one of his best decisions.

Whilst looking at apartments in St Kilda, Dan and I had started to see it in a different light. With a great cosmopoliton nightlife on its doorstep, the beach and heaps of public transport, we changed our minds and agreed with Eric that St Kilda was the best option. After being turned down on 2 perfect apartments ( we wanted a 6 month lease - they wanted a year) we finally found our home of our dreams.

Only a year old, it is absolutely huge. With 3 massive bedrooms, one ensuite, a massive lounge, cool kitchen and bathroom, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Granted our view from the balcony does look over a building site, but you cant have everything! The only thing lacking was a swimming pool, but to be fair how many times would we actually use it anyway!
