After a day stuck in the coach, I was glad to hear that today we were going to drive a relatively short distance of 112kms to Queenstown, New Zealand's official Extreme town.
You can do absolutely anything extreme based here, whether you want to throw yourself off a bridge attached to an elastic band or swim down fast flowing river with only a body board to protect you from the rocks, you can, but at a price. We noticed that there was a considerable price mark up on the activities just because they were based in Queenstown! Not good for our dwindling bank balances!
Because I still felt like absolute crap, we decided to go on the famous Shotover Jet. You will probably recognise it from the photos as it is always featured on Holiday shows. It's the speedboat that accelerates down a river towards cliffs that stick out, missing them by inches! We could see why the drivers have to undertake 120 Hours practice on the river before he got is licence!
After staring death in the face in the morning, we decided to do something a little less strenuous in the afternoon, so we caught a ride on a gondola (chair lift) up to a viewpoint way above the town of Queenstown; and what a view. Finally we had a day of sunshine, which, as you can see from the photo's made Queenstown look even more amazing. QT was by far the most impressive town we had been to in New Zealand, probably why we stayed here for a week!
