Why oh why..?
Entry 3 of 102 | show all | print this entry |
I, as many of you still do, used to commute daily to good ol' London Town, awoke up at dawn (8:00 or 8:05 if i was lucky), made my way to the cold, usually wet, open platform, and stand on 'my' bit of platform, with the 'same' people, waiting for the usually late train.
on arrival i would fight for the same 2 seats that had that extra 2mm worth of leg room, thus saving you from sitting opposite that women doing her make-up or that annoying couple from Canvey Island that would always talk about pointless things - last topic of conversation was which blinds they should buy for their new home - not really what you want to hear first thing in the morning!
It would then dawn on me that I would have to spend the next whole hour sitting on this overcrowded carriage, knowing that at the end of the journey, I would have to squeeze onto another tube train to get to my beloved work! (Tube trains in the Summer are not pleasant I can tell you that!)
I would then go into work and the first thing i would do is moan about the trains - we all do it. I can guarantee that if you work in London, if you dont moan about the weather, you would have moaned about the time it took to get in? I'm as guilty as anyone, usual complaints were either lateness of trains, someone jumping again, or someone bloody fainting again! There was always an excuse for my punctuality - and it was always the trains fault!
So when i told people I was going round the world, stoping in the US first, you can forgive them for being a little shocked when i told them it was all to be done by train! To be honest i'm still a little shocked myself, but we were assured that it would be an experience we would never forget! I'm not to sure if it was us being gullible new travellers, the saleswomen was very good at her job, or both, although she was wearing a very low cut top, which i'm sure she was using to her advantage, because by the time we left STA Travel we left with:
*Original Single flight to Oz *Stopover in USA inc. 30 day unlimited rail pass *Stopover in Fiji inc. a very expensive island tour *Stopover in NZ inc. a very expensive tour
Oh and $(pound)1,110 lighter!
Well that was a few months back now, so after saving my arse off, selling my virginity on Ebay (no offers though?!) and regular visits to the Sperm Clinic, its the 4th October and i'm sitting in Heathrow, awaiting the final boarding call for Flight no. NZ1 to LA...
