So on thursday I had bigger than usual day, which started seeing the ac de triomph, which is impressive, and you also notice how much the french love straight lines as the roads leading from the arc were dead straight into the horizon. Next I walked to the Eiffel tower, which is charming aside from the most tourists I have ever seen in a single place. I walked through the big park adjacent to the tower, then met with Jean-Paul, who took me to sacre couer, where I didn't bring my camera, but the view of Paris was amazing. The church is also nice in a church kind of way. We then went to a stereotypical french restaurant where I think JP was the only french guy there
Friday I was kind of hungover but I still managed to get outside to Notre Dame, which is was spectacular but again a giant queue deterred me from entering (yes, I am impatient). Next I went to the Louvre where the interesting glass pyramid indicate the entrance. The museum is gigantic and it is probably not possible to see everything in one day. I saw the mona lisa behind a sea of heads, and then checked out the ancient roman and ancient egyptian artifacts which was interesting for me. Later I went out, where I found the french quite friendly and approachable. I met Jean-Jacques, who when I mentioned I wanted to see Versailles the next day, he offered to drive me.
So saturday I met with JJ and we drove the 50 minutes to Versailles. The palace is amazingly gluttonous with gold trims on almost everything, and you could see the various rooms of Louis XIV. Next we walked in the Marie Antoinette gardens, which were nice, and classical music was playing. We then walked to Trianon palace which was also incredible. All this took about 4 hours and a lot of walking. Later I had Moroccan with JJ (he tried to get me to eat steak tartare, which I wasn't quite ready for) which was really nice with flavours I haven't really tasted for a long time. We had a few drinks, and enjoyed my last night in Paris (I really should have planned longer in France)
Today I had a very quiet day and just relaxed in the Parc de Buttes Chaumont which was directly across from where I was staying. Now, I am on my way to meet Gabriel in Heidelberg by train.
