My last 'silk road city' that I was to see was Samarkand. I had planned to stay 4 days and the great weather on the first day was certainly a positive sign of good things to came.
Now the sights were great, I would even say amazing but by a few hours I had had it with mosques, madrasers and most of all blue domes!
However I did stay there 4 days so i guess i have to talk about something interesting.
The Registan really was amazing certainly one of those building like the Taj that makes you go wow (and doesn't cost $15).
Getting to see Uzbekistan police in action dealing with a drunk was interesting. I saw them trying to get him up while i went to the Internet, one hour later, they were still at it. Why they didn't just leave him there was beyond me. Though the crowd certainly thought it was funny.
The car ride to Shakhrisabz (a town with more blue domes) was great for the fact I got to drive through a mountain pass at 3000m, see some green on trees and get to witness some traditional uzbek villages in action - it seemed moving the cows was what was happening that day.
And lastly i have to saw hello to the three crazy Irish bikers heading to the Olympics - thanks for the beers and good luck on your trip
ohh one more thing I saw a couple being 'very close' in a park - very normal you may say in Australia, but as i walked past i remembered that I hadn't seen anything like this in 6 weeks as I had been in the conservative countries of iran, turkmen and even some part of uzbek. Again just one of those small things that you take for granted in australia
