Hello everyone,

After Japan it is great to be back to dirty Korea. As I still had two weeks left I decided to explore our little section of southern Korea. In doing so I came across two amazing festivals that you would not see if you were only 'travelling through'.

Jindo Sea Parting Festival.
About 1.5 hours from Gangjin, this festival is world famous as it shows the worlds most intense king tide in action. Pretty much what occurs is a 3 km causeway appears from the sea which links two islands and allows people two walk along the seabed.

If any one has seen the 'Ten Commandments' you will know what it looks like, indeed the festival is also known as the 'Moses sea parting Festival'. This is also a chance for all the crazy old Korean ladies to come out of the woods and try to find shellfish etc. Like so many things in Korea, safety was an after thought, I saw many deep (soon to be infected) cuts being 'fixed up' in the emergency tent (though only with iodine, you only go to hospital if you are on your death bed in Korea).

However the night was to get better as I soon released the last bus to gangjin had left and therefore it seemed that a sleep in a rice field might have to be undertaken. Luckily I started talking to a Korean who was in the same boat (a chemical engineer no less), and using his special skills i.e. the ability to speak Korean, we soon had a motel room to stay in.

Muan White Lotus Festival

Not much to say here, it was great but I think I will let the pics do the talking.
