To be honest Nanjing is not the most exciting city, which would explain why it is not featured heavily on many (any) organised tours. However, it did have the most amazing tree lined streets which were great to walk around and just chill out - which is what i wanted to do as I was officially 'templed' out.
Remember Harbin and the things that happened there with the Japanese? Well, in Nanjing they got a serving by them too, but down here is was really bad and the Chinese I talked to about have not forgotten the 'Nanjing Massacre'
Nanjing is also very famous for having the mausoleum of Dr Sun Yet, the founder of the Chinese democratic movement i.e. the guy before Mao and his goons turned up. To celebrate his life and death the government has built a huge mausoleum in honour of him in a natural park. To be honest it is massive and i guess a fitting tribute to the guy but what really got to me was the 150 yuan ticket to get into the park, now to be honest the park is a nice days sightseeing, but 150 yuan!!! That was my daily budget. Not to mention there was that much pollution in the air any nice shoots I tried to get turned up as hazy/murky pictures - a common occurrence I discovered when I looked at pictures I took on a computer.
Ah well enough bitching I'm off to Suzhou - the Venice of the east - I'm not getting my hopes up for this one!
