I have to start by saying that all of the people I have ever spoken to about Canberra are wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sure, it might be full of stuffy politicians, and yes, it may not boast the most exciting nightlife scene in the country, but it has one main thing going for it.

Shit here is free!

We've seen the national museum, national gallery, the Australian mint, the national library (and used free internet there twice), the national war museum and the NASA space center. All for free. We visited parliament and the high court, also for free, and although we did miss the theatre aspect with neither deigning to sit this week for our viewing pleasure, we still got a good look around and an insight into how stuff works- for free.

They’ve got free shit out the yin yang here. It’s awesome! It’s a pikey’s dream come true.

It’s especially good if the weather happens to be total shite and raining a massive downpour across the nation’s capital and both neighbouring states, because everything you come here to see is indoors.

Although when the weather improves there’s plenty of outdoor pursuits, which are right at your doorstep because unlike the suburban metropolis and gridlock of Sydney or Melbourne, mountains, lakes and bushland surround this city of 350,000 people and you don’t even have to drive to get out amongst it!

I honestly don’t care if everything shuts down here at 6pm! This place is awesome! It’s pretty, it’s navigable, it’s not filled with pissheads looking to beat some heads, and in case you haven’t already got my point, it’s got loads of free shit!

Bollocks to all the nay sayers! Canberra rocks!

I'm with you, I really enjoyed Canberra. The Australian War Memorial is one of the most spectacular I've seen. Lurved it!
