After two weeks spent at my parents' while we got rid of Leaky, our worn and torn Hyundai, and purchased an upgrade (a Holden Commodore Executive station wagon), along with a side trip with the pears up to the Flinders Rangers, we were on our way to the east coast. The first day saw us in Echuca, a nice halfway point and a cute little town. We followed the Sturt Highway to just past Mildura and then onto the B400 all the way back to the mighty Murray River. After setting up camp we went for a swim in the pool while the wind whipped up and the promised thunderstorm raised it's dark head along the horizon.

It proved to be a huge one. We watched it from the car as the lightning took over the black sky and the rain pelted down, reminding us of what a real downpour is, until we started to fall asleep. Moving to the tent, it sounded like the thunder was all around us, and the wind whipped the tent about like a buoy in a stormy sea.

The next day we packed up and headed straight for the Hume Highway. We stopped for a good shop at Wodonga before heading into the high country of the Snowy Mountains. Check out some of the video in this blog entry to see just how beautiful the drive is through the range, taking in our highest mountain Mt Kosciusko.

We were staying in a campground right on the lake at Jindabyne and looking out on a beautiful scene in gorgeous weather, we sat back with a couple of drinks and planned our next few hike filled days.

You were in my sister's country there - she's just outside Wodonga and goes to Jindabyne a bit. Did you get to the Ettamogah Pub while you were in the area?

Beautiful part of the world! Did you drive past or get to Lake Crackenback which is at the base of Mount Kosi? x
