We arrived in Lima and were excited to visit Kelby and Linda Carter, who are friends of a friend of ours. Kelby and Linda hail from Georgia and had a extremely loving and serving heart to two strangers they had never met before. So how did they end up in Lima?? Well, they both had been hearing so often how sometimes missionaries can become bogged down with certain logistics or pragmatics that demand much of their time that would otherwise be spent on their primary mission focus and purpose. So, after a time of seeking Godīs will (which included a few miraculous stories) and preparation, Kelby and Linda developed a heart to serve other missionaries somewhere and begain their missionary journey in 2000 in the country of Suriname. They then spent time in Honduras before coming to Lima as missionaries in the fall of 2002. When they first came they helped to start two video Bible schools in Lima, and following that Kelby was asked to be the director of a local seminary in Lima called Destino Bible Seminary Amy cooking with Linda

During our stay in Lima we spent a lot of time with our new friends. Amy had a great time shopping with Linda (Matt enjoyed the company more than the shopping), and at one point we even got to go to a Pizza Hut which was quite a treat. One of the best parts of our visit was one evening we had the opportunity to go with them to their mid-week church service. We had a great time of fellowship with the people there and also had the chance to meet and talk with the pastor for quite a while, as well as numerous other fantastic people. We heard lots of stories of what God is doing in Lima and even in the Peruvian countryside villages from people who regularly go there. From what we have been hearing, one of the common challenges in Peru (and in South America in general) is how many people take the Catholic background they have and twist it with the expressed worship of the historical saints as well as many other entities. We have been told that this is often approved by local Catholic churches as long as those objects of worship (such as the sun) are worshipped in the name of a particular saint. As a result, many of the churches in South America and many missionaries are now focusing their efforts on helping the people better understand the Bible. As a result, churches continent wide are exploding with growth, so it is a very exciting time to be in Peru.

By the time it was time for us to leave Lima we felt like Kelby and Linda were dear friends and are excited to keep in touch in the future. THANKS CARTERS!
