We originally decided to add France to our itinerary so that we could visit Cannes where Mattīs high school friend Katie Hansen lives. After our miserable train ride from Rome we were excited to stay in a Katieīs house and just relax for a while, and we definitely did. During the day we arrived Katie was working so we had the afternoon to explore the town. Cannes is basically a french Beverly Hills on water. We couldnīt believe the prices in the storefront windows. $2,000 dresses, $1,000 pairs of shoes, $500 day planners, these were just some of the extravagances that could be bought here. Picking our way through the Ferraris and Jaguars we made our way to a Vietnamese restaurant (of all things) for lunch and then McDonalds for dessert. These were all we could afford in this town!
Katie picked us up after work, and when we asked her where she lived she replied, "just up the hill" which we interpreted as just a few minutes drive
We had a great time hanging out with Katie and Nicolas, and are extremely thankful they wanted to hang out with us amidst their very busy schedules. Thanks so much guys!!!

Katie & Nicolas
. It was actually a 40 minute drive through the BEAUTIFUL countryside to a little town called Fayence which is on a hill. She lives in a great multi-level place where we had our own bedroom with a balcony overlooking the lowlands below us. It was amazing. We spent our first night having dinner with her and her boyfriend Nicolas who is french and had a great time talking and catching up. Amy and I liked it there so much that we decided to change our flight which was the next day to the day after. This gave us the next day to lounge around while they were both working again, catch up on sleep, walk through the little village and practice our limited french. We didnīt do a whole lot, but that is exactly what we hoped for. That day we cooked dinner for Kate and Nicolas and had another fun night as they wanted to see in their huge atlas exactly where it was we had been in the last 7 months. It was a lot of fun to run through it again, but was exhausting to think of how much ground weīve covered. We had a great time hanging out with Katie and Nicolas, and are extremely thankful they wanted to hang out with us amidst their very busy schedules. Thanks so much guys!!!
