Plan: Leave Athens at 11; arrive in Milan at 1; take last train to Nice at 3:10; meet Jon, Jill, Kelly, Robert, Jenn, Drew, and Anne-Elise.

Actuality: Wake up at 8 after sleeping (a) little; get to airport with time to spare; wait on flight information after delay; wait...wait 2 and a half hours while trying to read and/or sleep on a row of hard chairs, amidst some 8 y.o. kid's harmonica "playing"; finally wait at the gate once the counter opened up; wait on some guy to figure out where he parked the huge, orange Easyjet plane; wait for take-off; enjoy a most turbulent flight; wait for half an hour to descend (with tray table and chair in upright positions...and no frisbee in the aisles either); wait on luggage; wait on a bus to come to take us to the city center; wait for an hour for the bus to arrive in the central station, while some lady with no control over her offspring chased her kids up and down the aisle; march all over the train station looking for a road map to find how to get to the hostel; hike several blocks to get to the hostel; find the hostel to be of an over-priced, underwhelming sort, with one toilet and curtainless shower serving 3 floors; grab some grub; type a griping message home; pass out.

And incidentally, Milan is a grimey, sprawling industrial city with a colorful Tinea graffitis fungus spreading like so much metropolitan athlete's foot. And if I get up as planned at 6, I should arrive in Nice by noon and enjoy a little beach-reunion with the "et al." gang. Certainly look forward to it, though it means tonight I say goodbye to Scott and Adam. Well, I hope you all find yourselves well, and I feel closer to you all already, now that I'm back to only 7 hours away from central standard time.

cheers,

matt
