Whilst in Christchurch, we hired a six and a half metre campervan from United Campervans. It was a six berth van and there were only the four of us, myself, Rob, Dave and Mel. After picking it up around 10am, Rob brought it back to outside our hostel, only to inadvertently park it illegally and get us a nice $80 parking ticket by 10.45am! Anyway, we packed up and set off down to Dunedin, in the south west of Otago. Here we racked up to watch the Second Lions Test, on arrival we started taking the piss by asking locals where the Wellington Stadium was which got us strange looks! We donned our Lions shirts and headed to the Sports Bar which had, through the back, its own massive screen and terraced seating. Lion Red beer was off tap, which to me, wasn't a good omen! Turned out correct as the Boys in Black nailed us 48-18, so we endured a torrent of abuse as we slinked back out the pub to find some where to camp up for the night.

We found a picturesque location alongside the Otago Harbour on the Peninsula and stayed there for the night. It later turns out that freedom camping on the Pensinsula is illegal!! We toured around the Peninsula, heading all the way up to the Albatross Colony and up to the only castle in New Zealand, Larnach Castle. On the way up to the latter, we encountered a tight hairpin corner to which Dave seemingly forgot the size of the vehicle he was driving and conrnered way too sharply, crashing over a large curb. The microwave popped open and the glass plate shattered all over the floor!!
We managed to get some good shots down over the harbour before heading off in search of the area's notorious yellow-eyed penguins.
