Laurence's visa was fast running out so he stayed on the bus and headed for Saigon, Rob had told me the hotel they were staying at, it was extremely secluded and the moped driver had no idea where he was going so I spent about 40mins looking for it. It was only 6.30am and the guys werent impressed at me banging on their door so early. They had been doing a diving course and were on their last day. That night they had to take the exam but they were a right state from the night before (St Paddy's Day), anyway, they passed the exam all the same.
No sooner had I arrived in the hotel did it start raining, the heavens just burst and the streets were soon flooded. Nha Trang is famous for its cheap diving courses and beautiful beaches; having suffered a perforated eardrum when I was younger, I was told that it was very probable I would go deaf if I dived - so that was me out of that one, then with it raining the beaches too were off limits. So being very bored and by now hungry, I headed off to find a restaurant. My waterproof coat saw its first action of the trip and served me well. With the roads being flooded, we did not see the newly laid tar mac road and so walked straight through it ruining my new trainers, I then walked tar mac into the restaurant too, the owner wasn't amused and neither was I!! To add more insult to injury, my bag was soaked and therefore my dirary, my flight tickets, my insurance documents and my camera!!! Fortunately, these dried out later on and still worked, but by now I'd had enough of Nha Trang. Mel and Rob had walked through the same tar but Rob had left his shoes on in the hotel and so had walked tar round the room, I spent that afternoon in the shower with a towel scrubbing my trainers and the floor to try and get rid of it but to little avail. The next day I was glad to
be on my way to Da Lat in the Central Highlands.
