5 Months

2 continents, 5 countries, 7000km.  Spinning around the sun.
Things are starting to wear.  The zipper strings have pulled off.
The spine on my beloved diary is peeling.
Crumpled, folded, freyed papers fall away, unimportant.

But I still blaze on, down the road, an orange flame.
The bus, the plane, the boat, walking mountains, jungles, rivers, empty beaches.
I've met a thousand people I may never see again,
or maybe I will

Across oceans, amongst different people, in different worlds,
a thousand bright flames, burning along like fireflies in the light night.
Awaiting the bright dawn of a new day, the shrill call of a Frusciante guitar.

Will I recognise them, will they me?
Across mountains, through rivers, snow capped peaks
and green forested hills.  A thousand brown beautiful faces
with deep pools for eyes, winding roads and cheese induced nausea.
One day the new road will be built and the landslides won't touch us.
Until then we walk, staff in hand, bag on back, bag on front, we walk.

Quenching our thirst when we see our next traveling friend.
Speaking quickly after hours of solitary silence.  Book and music
blazing paths in my brain after too much self thought.
So impossible/impractical to be an island.  Why even try?

Memories of driving across Canada, pulling into Beer Store
parking lost.  Looking amazed at the wall of selection!
Beers I had never heard of!
Driving amongst the Southern Ontario windmills
in the summer heat towards the ferry.

We wrestle in the campground at night, your misery,
smooth shoes providing no traction in the dirt rugby push.
Viva La Vida playing over and over again in the blue rocket,
streaking across the hinterland, road pops in hand we run from the damn cops.
She really did settle in around 150, autobahn design.

Jumping curbs, driving through snowstorms
in midnight, full snow tread on.
More snow than I've ever seen in my life.
Cool little mountain towns in Tahoe.
California and Nevada meet!
Gambling in our hotel for free beers, Heineken Even!
Slots poker and small caesars.  We giggle like kids as we smoke
in the circus bling of the floor.
Flirting with the casino girls,
in their black dresses and white tops.
I make friends with a midget one night.
He liked Jack and Coke.

Sitting in the Hot tub time machine
as the biggest storm ever rolls in,
flakes falling like leaves, wet in the fall,
like the ancient salmon stream.
The smell of Dad's fish farts in his green work truck :)
we drink cold beer
in the hot water, rolling in the snow.
Tingling like a big smile.

The Peak Chair is buried till 2pm the next day.
we wait patiently and are 4th chair up.
We ride powder so deep it swallows us!
We streak through the glades,
gliding, carving!
like mountain gorillas,
oh so sweet!!
Down steep slopes,
we smell out the fresh lines, in and out of trees
seeing the line, seeing the line. Faster!

Racing to the bottom, over and over and over again
until it begins to get dark and the day closes.
we ride the gondola down to the bright lights of the village.
A great day on the mountain. We walk to the club at night in t-shirts
practicing the "sport" with little success. So tired I swill red bull for energy.
Wind blows so hard the mountain closes the next day.

Why work?
Travel, play! Travel, play!!  Travel, play!!!
And the Day will never set,
but instead blaze on into the night!
In Ontario, In Tahoe, in South America!
